Puerto Rico Building Inspection – ARPE
Hopefully by the end of today, I will have a lot more done than everyone is predicting. I am leaving Rincon in a few minutes to travel to Aguadilla to do two things. That is my goal for today…simply two things.
- Get ARPE paperwork
- Transfer the water into my name from the previous owner of the house
The ARPE paperwork is apparently an official issue of building code etc that my plumbers and electricians will have to certify (down here, the inspectors are the contractors that do the job..but not all contractors can certify…so you need to find the right ones) when they are complete the job. My plumber already said that the house is good and that he’ll certify it as soon as I get the ARPE paperwork. My electrician is from Florida (thanks Brian!) but I will get a local contractor that is certified to come in and run the main hook up from my property line down to the house. I will have to notify the bank when I am ready for the electrical inspection…they will send over their own henchman for that job.
I will update you on how today goes.
Check out the map below, I will be heading to the Aguadilla ARPE office on the far left side.

Is it possible to have an interaction with ARPE – get questions answered about occupancy permits, zoning, and the like – without having to go to Aguadilla or Mayaguez to see them in person? In other words do they answer questions over the phone, or via email? Or is there an interactive ARPE web site? I’m in New York City and it would be very inconvenient for me to have to go all the way to Aguadilla!

my ex-husband passed away and I went to Puerto rico (i will omit the town for fear of retaliation )
When I arrived I saw that a thug had constructed shotty construction fron his onto my land…much of it overlapping 3 feet onto my land as a wing (looks ver much as if it will collaps any time soon )I went to arpe on Feb 2010 they inspected and found tons of violations and took dozens of pictures and measurements….well they gave the owner 10 days to act on it?…well then another 20 days and another 20 days. It is June and ARPE only makes me think they are on it.
At times I get employees that actually get annoyed at me…all I want to do is improve PR and make it a betterb place. But it seems that Thugs Rule with fear…what about our Rights…I only hope for results . What can be done with the way the government agencies are run …guess nothing till we run the thugs out! Good luck to all dealiing with ARPE
