We were first thinking to move to NZ but its so far our parents would never see their grand children so the plan has changed. also look into earthbagbuilding cos its possible to build a 2 bedroom home from half the budget you have. A few of us here in Nacogdoches in East Texas have been tossing around the idea of moving to PR for some time now and while doing some internet searching (jobs, land, housing, weather, etc) happened upon the two of you in the midst of your dream. Regarding the louvered closet doors and the subtropical/tropical humidity, that (louvers) is a definite yes. I've lived a lot of years around the Gulf Coast, Texas to South Florida, even some time in Jamaica. I haven't read all of your blog but, if your house is air conditioning I would recommend adding dehumidifier(s). Not only will it dry things out but, also, you'll find the a/c won't have to work so hard to the point you have to be chilled to get rid of the humid slimey feeling. You'll actually feel a lot more comfortable at a, say, 10-15 degree higher temperature (80-85 degrees as opposed to 70). What kind of work do you do? My friends' are chiropractors (husband and wife team), another is an attorney and, as for myself, I'm an IT, these days primarily building custom computers, networking, contracting out to local firms, etc. Any hints or words of 'experienced' wisdom you can offer regarding a move to PR would be most appreciated. I've heard it's better to go with more money and less 'things'. I've also heard it's not a great idea to ship vehicles and if you do don't try to use it ship personal effects. Is that so?
