Travertine for the Master Bath

Author: Summer | Filed under: Bathrooms, Construction, Flooring

I went to Home Depot Expo today and was looking at flooring. I totally fell in love with the MS International Inc Tarvertine flooring in Tuscany Walnut Pattern.

The picture does not do it justice. The tiles are big and smooth, but with roughed up edges that look slightly crystalized. It’s pretty rad and it’s only $5.49 per square foot. Is it just me, or does that seem pretty damn cheap?

Also, I think Robin is right about the grout space on the flat river rock. Since the master bedroom is going to have hardwood floors, I think the travertine will compliment the wood nicely.

I added a picture of the Travertine you were talking about…I have a slow connection tonight and it took me 10 minutes to download that .pdf, so in order to save anyone else that trouble…tadah!

Am I looking at the right one?

Yes, that is the right color, but I like the regular pattern (not the mini). Same tavertine, just bigger tiles.

If yall are happy Im happy. The pic isnt a good random pattern. If they dont come in random patterns, a herring bone? As long as I get a shower eventually.

I have some travertine and like it BUT when you grout it the grout fills in all the nooks and crannies on top of tile so grout can do funny things. I re-grouted my travertine floor in my cave shower and like it better now. Luckily I covered up my first stupid grout choice mess. Travertine and slate you have to make sure you TOTALLY vacuum and clean B4 mopping because if not all the dust and dirt turns into your grout and gets deep into the holes. My cleaning people missed a couple of times and someday I need to spend hours getting the dirt out of all the nooks and crannies. I went with a tumbled marble instead of travertine in one bathroom and LOVE that surface or keeping clean. Travertine is pretty cheap because it is so porous and really needs a penetrating sealer, less porous is Limestone, then marble, then granite. I got awesome marble for $2.23 per sq ft. Cools slate can be shopped from 75 cents to $2 per sq ft. Limestone and Crema Marfil marble for about $3.50 per square foot. I love the stone auction in Poway!

My neighbors got cheap Crema Marfil marble and acid washed it to make it look like limestone but much more durable and less porous than limestone an travertine. OK, enough of my stone obsession! I love stone surfaces!

MDH – You mean the mosquito nest, I mean, outside shower wasn’t good enough for you?! You’re getting high maintenance in your old age ;) …just kidding…haha. The pick above was just cropped square, I believe the pattern is more random.

ROBIN – You are obsessed with stone! That’s a good thing, though, because we can learn from your stoner mistakes :D .
