Today was a very productive day. Jerry and I finished up cleaning up all of the extra rock from the blue stone planter boxes and stairs, we filled up a truck full of trash, carried in 200 12×24 1 inch thick marble tiles (they must weigh 15 pounds each) and helped Louis carry in the first two rough pieces of our kitchen.
Although I am excited about all of the progress we make at the house…you can’t see a lot of it as you work on it. It slowly evolves into something that is too slight on the daily level to notice. It’s only when I look back at the before pictures that I realize how much progress we have made. The kitchen, however, is not one of those slowly evolving things. Once we put in the back to two bottom pieces (two “L” shapes) the kitchen took form right in front of me.

I will have more pictures for you in a day or two…mark has my camera. Lo Siento.

Lookin’ absolutely beeeeaaauuuutiful! What will the floor be?
WOW! It matched the window sills perfecto. I can see the cool stove too! I want to come home and see it in person!!!
Robin - The floors are going to be wood, I think. Will that be too much wood for a kitchen?
I love wood BUT everyone I know that has put wood in kitchen and bathrooms is crying because of water and ice and cooking splatters and spills. Try to imagine the two diff woods coming together (like my wall upstairs that I hate) b4 you do kitchen in wood. AND try to imagine your 5 kids making snacks and getting drinks and such in kitchen with wood floor.
i have to admit that it makes sense not to have wood in the kitchen too. I like the idea of the aesthetics of the hardwoods running all the way from the Great Room into the kitchen but it does make sense that they would get completely worked by all the wear and tear…especially with 5 kids in there
the issue we have to deal with if we pull this audible is that we have already begun the installation of the cabinets…so we would have to rip those out…lay the entire floor with concrete board/mud ensuring that it is level…and then pick out tile and lay it before the next round of cabinets gets here which is in 10 days.
Summer will be here early on Saturday morning…maybe we’ll go back to Rustic Tile in Mayaguez or Paradise Tile in Aguada and make a quick decision. For those of you that haven’t built a house in Puerto Rico, those decisions are based on what is in stock…which really limits our options.
