RINCON PUERTO RICO: WATCH AS WE FINISH OUR HOUSE!

Yesterday, I was reminded why Summer and I chose Puerto Rico as our new home. The waves starting picking up last week with some small chest to head high real shallow surf (over reef; see Urchin Attack) but yesterday was a couple feet, offshore and lined up on the Caribbean side. I didn’t have the chance to take any pictures because I was too amped on surfing and I didn’t want to leave my camera in the truck with no windows.

This morning was a different story. I knew the swell was supposed to pick up through today so I checked it with some coffee and my camera. It is big.

Here is a picture of a wave , I don’t know what the spot is called ;-) that I saw coming over the hill. It has some size to it…probably double overhead on the sets…but you can’t tell from these pics. I also made the pictures clickable so you can see them at 1000 pixels if these are too small for ya.

Here is another shot from by the lighthouse.

The tide is extremely full, the rip is sweeping around the point and it seems senseless to paddle out here and wear myself out knowing that 20 minutes north in Aguadilla it is probably a foot or two overhead and lined up. I am going surfing…hasta lluego!

Stefan and I had SO much fun in San Juan for Halloween! We stayed at the El San Juan Hotel, got dressed up as vampires, gambled until 4am, went to the club at 4:01am and had the entire dance floor to ourselves (minus the two people having sex in the corner, yes, seriously), hung out at the pool the next day, went shopping at the awesomest Marshalls Mega Store that I have ever seen, picked up a TV at Costco and hightailed it home to Rincon.

Here are some pictures of our vampire costumes:

Stefan really got in to character and killed Monkey. Lo siento, Monkers…

Here is a video of the progress of our guest bathroom:

It’s almost complete! To finish the bathroom we need to:

~ Buy/Install a permanent shower rod.
~ Buy/Install a towel bar and towel ring.
~ Install glass shelves in mirrored nook.
~ Apply final coat of paint.
~ Switch out PVC sink trap to chrome.
~ Hang the door.

My Dad arrived in Puerto Rico yesterday and he has already gotten SO much shit done on the house. First of all, he showed up with a tankless water heater for us (and guys thought girls liked flowers…)!

Stefan and I couldn’t find the type of waterheater we wanted here in Puerto Rico and we couldn’t find anyone in the states that would ship one to Puerto Rico, so my Dad tracked one down, lugged it to the airport and drug it all the way down here for us. Of course he got searched profusely at the airport, since security was baffled at why anyone would travel with a waterheater, but hey, that’s what Dads are for, right? haha.

Today, I played plummers assistant to my Dad and he set our sink for the guest bathroom. FINALLY!!!!!

Yes, we not only have a sink, but it also has a faucet that water comes out of. Oh the simple joys of life!

I have been wanting to get the guest bathroom complete for several weeks now and for whatever reasons, it just was never happening (welcome to Puerto Rico ;) ). I was totally content with having a working sink in the bathroom, but when I turned my back for a second Super Fix It Dad installed the above sink lighting and fan as well. Then he made some seriously positive changes to the kitchen cabinetry, covered the marble flooring in the kitchen to avoid scratches AND even cleaned the disgusting toilet downstairs (that the construction guys have been using. Gross.) because he knew I wouldn’t go near the thing.

It’s nice having someone around that knows what he’s doing…My Dad is awesome :)!

Stefan and I have been really busy and will have some pictures to share in the next couple of days, but let me tell you this…The freaks come out at night, here in Puerto Rico.

And by “freaks”, I mean BIG, creepy crawly creatures.

I was working in my office last night (which is downstairs) and I saw something in the doorway out of the corner of my eye. I squinted to get a better look and thought it might just be some construction debris (we have plenty of that…), but upon further inspection, it turned out to be a HUGE toad. Seriously it had to have been a couple of pounds, at least.

I am working late again tonight and I went out to get my shoes that I left on the front porch. Apparently some tarantula had other plans for my pink Pumas, because he was looking longingly at them when I opened the front door.

Screens for the office windows has just moved up the priority list…

Summer and I got back from San Juan last night. We had a great time and I would definitely call it a successful mission!

When we got back, the first thing I noticed at the house was how much the grass grew. It is really starting to look good. We’ll re-seed again in two or three weeks after we cut it for the first time. Check it out:
