Animal Rescue Foundation – Rincon, Puerto Rico
Stefan, Sheena, Shay and I were dining at The Lazy Parrot tonight and I came across a sign from the Animal Rescue Foundation of Rincon Puerto Rico. A.R.F. of Rincon is a non-profit animal rescue and they are in danger of shutting down. A.R.F. of Rincon is staffed only by volunteers and is funded only by donations. Unfortunately donations are slow to come by for an animal rescue in Puerto Rico, so they are currently only able to run two days a week due to lack of funding.
I’m a total animal freak so I’m going to do what I can.
I am going to donate and figure that it would be a good opportunity for anyone else that would like to donate to this good cause, as well. ARF’s website certainly is lacking and donations can only be sent via mail (helllooooo 1990’s). So, I have set up a way to easily donate via this website:
AND, to sweeten the pot, I will personal MATCH any donations made here (up to $1000). One month from now, I will take any donations made here + 100% and I will mail a check to A.R.F. of Rincon.
A.R.F. of Rincon is a legit non-profit and donations are tax deductible. I will make sure anyone that needs receipts gets them (just let me know).

I found your site on technorati and read a few of your other posts. Keep up the good work. I just added your RSS feed to my Google News Reader. Looking forward to reading more from you.

This is such a good idea! I am glad you put this up on the site.
There really are so many animals in Rincon (and Puerto Rico) that need an organization like ARF to help them out. There are stray dogs and cats everywhere that aren’t fixed just making the problem worse.

Summer, that is such a great thing that you are doing. ARF of Rincon usually have a fund raiser in March, I think it is on St Patrick’s day weekend. A friend of ours, Audrey is very involved with the organization. I am surprised that nothing was mentioned in the coquirincon.com, but you can count on my donation.

Summer, that is awesome. I donate to Save a Sato (save a mutt), a local foundation and have been an escort to bring a few of their dogs to mainland US shelters

I’ve also adopted two of their mutts
They’re sisters, I couldn’t separate them.

ARF’s 11th Annual St. Patty’s Day Beneficio will be happening Monday, March 17, 5:30pm at Villa Cofresi. We just designed the ad for Audrey and it will appear in the next issue of El Coqui. Support a great cause, get a buffet dinner and a chance to win free services for your pet as well as a Bunger Surfboard. Hope to see you all there!

That sly smile, those determined eyes, that unwaning pleasure to please… the mere quality and characteristics of the APBT have evoked more human emotional, rational, and irrational response than any other breed that exists today. By no means are these dogs people-haters or people-eaters. Their natural aggressive tendencies are toward other dogs and animals, not people. However if they are properly socialized they will not even be aggressive with them. These are truly quality companions for quality owners only! The American Pit Bull Terrier is a good-natured, amusing, extremely loyal and affectionate family pet, which is good with children and adults. Almost always obedient, it is always eager to please its master. It is an extremely courageous and intelligent guard dog that is very full of vitality. Highly protective of his owners and the owner’s property, it will fight an enemy to the death. It is usually very friendly, but has an uncanny ability to know when it needs to protect and when everything is okay. The American Pit Bull Terrier can be willful and needs a firm hand. They are generally okay with other pets if they are raised with them from puppy hood. For the most part they are very friendly, but not recommended for most people. Excellent with children in the family, they have a high pain tolerance and will happily put up with rough child play. As with any breed, they should not be left alone with unfamiliar children. Originally used as fighting dogs, the powerful American Pit Bull may go for the throat of strange dogs. A minimum of training will produce a tranquil, obedient dog. Socialize very thoroughly when young to combat aggressive tendencies and be sure to keep the dog under control when other dogs are present. It has given outstanding results as a guardian of property, but is at the same time esteemed as a companion dog. When properly trained and socialized, this is a very good dog and a great family companion. Unfortunately, some choose to promote the fighting instinct in the breed, giving it a bad name.

Summer,
For many years we the locals here in Rincon have voluntered our services and collected funds for ARF, in fact I also have 3 animals that we have rescued. The problem is that we can’t seem to get the local merchants in the town to donate sizeable donations to keep ARF going nor do they have enough volunteers to go around and embarass these guy’s to donate. It seems we burn out rapidly with trying to take too much on. Its great that you guy’s are taking an interest as new blood and ideas are needed to keep ARF going.
