Ok, so maybe I haven’t been putting as much time into the blog lately as I would like to be. I’ll admit it. But, in my defense, I have been doing other fun things. Summer and I have been chipping away at our master bedroom ‘to do’ list (I’ll update some pictures), we have both been really busy with our businesses and we just said goodbye to our last planned guest for this season, Drew.
I put together a little pictorial explanation of Drew’s visit to Puerto Rico:
Wrecked boat on the beach in Rincon Puerto Rico next to the jetty at Domes Beach Rincons Nuclear Power Plant Dome, Domes Beach looking back. Summer getting her golf on in Aguadilla next to the airport. Picture I took on our way to go snorkeling at Steps Beach in Rincon Puerto Rico Tapatio Mexican Restaurant sign and a cold Corona. A little Mexico in Puerto Rico
Today Stefan and I took Drew (who is in town visiting) up to The Goat House. The Goat House is a former drug dealers house, that was seized by the government. It seems that the government has forgotten that they own the house, because it has remained in the exact same state for over 15 years.
Walking in to The Goat House:
View from the first floor of The Goat House
The Goat House is a place where local kids sometimes hang out, drink rum and watch the sunset, and there is a reason for that…There is no place that has a better view of Rincon!
The view from the roof of The Goat House:
I took the panoramic photo of the view above, today, and pieced the pics together real quick, but I think you get the general idea of how awesome it is. Famous photographers (Aaron Chang, for one) have taken quite a few photos from the roof of the Goat House. But, you can sure see why!
Stefan and I have kept Chichieto separated from Kuta and Monkey for the last few weeks since Cheech has joined the family. As Kuta and Monkey got used to hearing his little kitty crys and smelling him in the house, we started to slowly introduce the new kitty to the dogs. Last week we started letting Cheech hang out and everyone seem to be getting along okay. We still have to keep watch, since Cheech has no idea what sort of danger he really is in. Cheech likes to sneak attack the dogs with right-left-right combos and a death bite to the hindquarters. This doesn’t always go over well with the dogs…
So, with that being said, I never thought I would see the day…
As cute as that photo is, Cheech has no idea that Kuta would really, realllllly, like to chomp him to death. Kuta was just kickin’ it while we where making dinner and Cheech (tired from attacking our ankles) thought that curling up next to Kuta would be cool.
Kuta has always been our main concern when it comes to Cheech. I hate to say it but I’ve seen him kill a kitten before (It’s just instinct). Luckly, Kuta is also a very obedient dog, and he knows that he’s not allowed to kill Cheech. With that in mind, Kuta just tries to be passive aggressive towards our new kitty family member. I put a little kitty bed in my office for Cheech, and Kuta decided to try to fit into it the other day. He knew that would piss the cat off…
Stefan decided that he wanted to try his hand at plumbing and installed a pedestal sink in our downstairs bathroom, so we picked out a Kohler sink from Home Depot and a Pegasus faucet in brushed nickel.
Installing a sink seems like an easy task, but it’s pretty involved and can be difficult if you don’t follow the instructions exactly. The 1st bummer was that we realized that we had to knock a hole in the new drywall in order to install a 2×4 to attach the sink to. Something that you would have done before installing drywall, if you know what you are doing. Us, not so much…
Stefan showing off his plumbers crack as he knocks out drywall to install the stud to attach the sink to:
Kuta inspecting the pipes and planning the sink installation:
Stefan installing the valves/hose thingies that will eventually bring water to the sink faucet:

I should be a plumber…:

Let there be water!:
All in all, it was a good learning experience and I think we did a great job!
What a great trip. It was awesome having Eddie and his new family down at the house for the past couple of weeks. They flew down to watch the house and enjoy the heat of the Caribbean (as opposed to the chill of Rhode Islane).
While here, the house turned into a home. Their 2 month old baby girl helped the place smell like baby powder and numerous ointments…the oven was kicking it at all times of the day…water was constantly boiling for either coffee, oatmeal or tea. Someone was cooking breakfast or cutting fruit. When the kitchen of a house has life, it feels like a home.
Eddie worked his ass off on our yard also. He planted new seed, helped set up a watering system, helped me organize where certain plants and trees should go and helped me understand the process of growing plants just a little bit more.
Stefan, Sheena, Shay and I were dining at The Lazy Parrot tonight and I came across a sign from the Animal Rescue Foundation of Rincon Puerto Rico. A.R.F. of Rincon is a non-profit animal rescue and they are in danger of shutting down. A.R.F. of Rincon is staffed only by volunteers and is funded only by donations. Unfortunately donations are slow to come by for an animal rescue in Puerto Rico, so they are currently only able to run two days a week due to lack of funding.
I’m a total animal freak so I’m going to do what I can.
I am going to donate and figure that it would be a good opportunity for anyone else that would like to donate to this good cause, as well. ARF’s website certainly is lacking and donations can only be sent via mail (helllooooo 1990’s). So, I have set up a way to easily donate via this website:
AND, to sweeten the pot, I will personal MATCH any donations made here (up to $1000). One month from now, I will take any donations made here + 100% and I will mail a check to A.R.F. of Rincon.
A.R.F. of Rincon is a legit non-profit and donations are tax deductible. I will make sure anyone that needs receipts gets them (just let me know).
