Mosquito Torture!
Author: Stefan | Filed under: Bugs
AAAAAACK! There are so many mosquitoes in my office today! I definitely have an itchy spot for every hour I have been down here today, not to mention the red slap marks I have all over my back and legs from trying to slap the little suckers.
Note to Self: Prioritize Air Conditioning for Offices and Master Bedroom before summer time and the real mosquito season is in full effect!

Rob,
We actually do have a bug racquet (thanks, Mark)! Unfortunately even with a bug racquet, it’s a never ending battle. Although, a more fun battle…

Mosquito is not a major problem for us in Pineapple Hill, believe it or not, we do not have many mosquitos there, BUT we do have vicious ANTS, they always bite me and I swell up. If it is not the ants, it is the pica pica. Oh, well, the things we have to put up with just to live in an Island!
Summer – I think the time that Frank and I will be there, you guys will be in NJ, We are going from May 28 to June 8th.

Stefan,
I grew up in PR and remember quite well the mosquitoes. We survived by installing screens on the windows and doors to the bedrooms and office area. If after installing screens they find a way of getting in, you may have to consider using insecticide. Don’t leave any items that can collect rain water out in the yard, its amazing how fast the mosquito larvae would start appearing after rain showers. You need to be careful with dengue which is transmitted by the mosquitoes and is quite endemic in the island.

Gary attracts mosquitoes from far and near so when I walk with him I never even see or hear them as they go for something about that polish/italian cross or something. So if he comes down just put Gary on your porch and no mosquitoes will go into your house. Maybe give him the racquet to play with and tropical fruit and he will be happy.

Try Thermacell. I used it last teal season and it worked great. I am not talking about keeping a few mosquitoes away, but thousands of them. I hunt in the marshlands and it is warm during teal season. It is the only thing that I have found that keeps them away. I have not tried it on Puerto Rican mosquitoes but I bet it works.
Here is the website link. Wal-Mart sells them in the states. http://www.thermacell.net/

Baby oil keeps them away. It is not good if your under the sun (because you will fry). Try it that was my cure for them.
