I have been through more hurricanes than I can count: New Jersey, North Carolina, Florida, Rhode Island…I have sat through them everywhere. I have to admit though, I was either renting, at my folks house or at someone else’s house. The only thing I really had to worry about was my car and that I was stupid enough to park it in a low area of town.
I know I am going to jinx myself here, but I kind of want to get the hurricane thing over with. Like a band aid, just rip it off quick!

No Atlantic Storms or Hurricanes | 7-28-08
It doesn’t look like that is going to happen over the next two weeks, the warm Atlantic Ocean hasn’t kicked up any activity lately and the Cape Verde islands don’t have any African low pressure systems pushing off. I guess for now, it’s just business as usual.
Stefan,
When David built the house it survived 2 large Hurricanes and a few small ones and due to the Aeronautical design of the House nothing ever damaged it.
The only things you have to worry about is what might be loose around the outside of the house. Beginning in Mid August we start watching for what comes off the coast of Africa and depending on the fronts coming down from the states determines if we will get a hit on Puerto Rico. Most of the Hurricanes come into P.R. from the East side of the Island and come across the High Mountain range and dwindle before they even get to us here in Rincon. In 18 years of living here we have only had 2 that really affected Rincon ( trees down, yards stripped etc)
So don’t worry too much as most of us Riconeros band together and help each other if that happens.
It happens with age that you start “caring” about those type of things! lol! Don’t worry too much about hurricanes, it is part of living in the Island.
If I was you I would make sure to have the window shutters done ahead of time, then organize them in a way that could take you just minutes to put them up.
If you have a cistern or any storage room detached from the main house make sure to secure those things ahead of time as well.
I don’t know if the previous post relates to you house but I would make sure you roof is well secured..that would be my only worry…you will never get flooded up there!
maybe you can install a hurricane widget on the site?
