Home Made Whole Wheat Bread

Author: Stefan | Filed under: Recipes and Food

Summer and I have been on a domestic tare lately. We’ve been cooking dinner and having leftovers at the house at least 5 days/nights a week. To change up our new ‘routine’ we decided to do some baking (as you can see by our christmas cookies).

I came up with the idea of making some home made bread so we researched a few recipes on line and I was off to the grocery store to buy supplies. I never knew that bread had so few ingredients.

We preheated the oven and added the yeast to warm water to resuscitate it and then mixed up our dough. We let it rise for about 30 minutes and then popped it in the oven. A few minutes later we had a delicious loaf of home made whole wheat bread. It was much denser than most bread but it was delicious. I am gonna try this same recipe again, but this time I am going to add a few nuts and cranberries…I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Maybe try adding some honey to add little sweetness. I have had some great homemade bread that had oatmeal in it and was also dusted on the top for a finishing touch.

Sounds like a good xmas / house warming gift to bring if you’re going to someone’s house. Throw it in a bag along with a package of coffee and a bottle of advil. Not a bad thing to tear into after a long night of throwing back a few too many!

Wow, I never made my own bread, but I would love to try it. Specially some type of nutty or olive bread. Yours did held up nicely.
Your cookies looked good too, if they tasted as good as they looked, then I am envious…because they looked delicious.

Hmmm, where is the recipe??? I love baking bread in my oven but I tried whole wheat once and did not turn our very good. Please share the recipe, if you still have it. I see that this posting was from 2008. Sorry, I am new to your blog.
