Door and Trim Progress

Author: Stefan | Filed under: Construction

We are moving forward with the progress upstairs. The faucet for the hot tub arrived, Tray hung all of our upstairs doors (and the downstairs bathroom), we hung drywall over the exposed treated lumber that is supporting the beam in the living room and I went out to San German to H.S. Keller and picked up some hard wood. H.S. Keller is a construction supply house on the Number 2 past Mayaguez about 20 minutes.

I picked up Roberto around 11:00am. Roberto was a furniture maker in New Orleans before he moved to Puerto Rico and he is going to be finishing our Master Bath area. He wanted to check out the type of wood they had there and I needed to buy about 500 linear feet of mahogany planks for Tray so he can hammer out all the trim work around the windows, doors and runner boards.

They had two piles of Mahogany planks in the 2″ range. One was the pre-cut pile and one was the rough pile. The pre-cut pile was almost triple the cost of rough boards. Roberto and I sorted through about 250 rough boards to find 13 good pieces of mahogany for the Trim Project (not warped, nice grain, no cracks, good integrity, 10″ wide). The price ended up to be about $40-$50 per 9x2x10 piece of mahogany.

We should be making progress on our kitchen cabinets this week as well. Louis said he is going to come by on Saturday and continue working on the installation.
