Let There Be…PRIVACY!
Remember back in February of last year, when we finally found and ordered our awesome mahogany interiors doors? Well, after a year of Stefan calling the door store and being told that the doors arn’t all in yet or to call back when someone spoke English or that some of the doors we ordered will never be coming in, etc…we finally got our hands on 4 interior doors from these guys (we ordered 10). It took so much effort to buy doors from these people that I have decided that the door store must be a front for a drug running business. Because they really have no interest in selling doors…
Any who, we got the doors, yay! And Trey installed them for us on our guest bathroom, guest room, master bedroom and downstairs bathroom.

When Trey was cutting the doors to fit them, he noticed that the doors were not solid mahogany, like we were told. They are actually pine with a very thin mahogany laminate. Fabulous…

Oh, well, they look and feel nice and solid. And we are just happy to finally have doors in our house!

the doors look great…. love them! question on your wood floors. Everyone tells me that is not good to have wood floors in the island b/c of the moisture, how you manage, how do you maintain them. I hate tile floors and I’m getting anxious, need wood!!!!!….Thanks

Sandra – The trick is using the right wood. You need to use the hardest wood you can find so that your floors are resistant to the humidity of the tropics as well as bug proof (I’m sure you’re aware of the termites around here!). Our original choice was Ironwood (Ipe), but the flooring people in San Juan did not have enough to cover the square footage we needed, so we had to go with Brazilian Teak. Brazilian Teak is also a very hardwood and so far we’ve had no problems. But, we have a very open, breezy floor plan and the upstairs is really never very humid (so nice, in fact, that we even skipped installing AC upstairs). We layed a small bit of wood flooring downstairs in Stefans office (where our house has concrete block construction and it gets more humid) and the wood has warped a little bit, but it’s really not that noticeable.

Well I hope I don’t get blacklisted! Hello from the central mountains of Puerto Rico. Lot’s of rain! Glad you got your doors well placed even if they are really pine..crooks! I also wrote about privacy recently. I think my bit was another more personal privacy issue. You seem like a genuine couple. We also moved from Calfornia many years ago but my husband has family here. Let’s see if this works now…should I write http www ???

We are headed to Rincon tommorrow. I just put 10 mahogany doors in my house in NH. They are solid doors, beautifull and cheap. Check out http://www.nicksbuilding.com/
I was wary of ordering online but the products were outstanding. I enjoy reading your site and we hope to have a house in rincon within the next few years.
