Gringo isn’t a racist word. It’s just a word spanish people use to call Americans from the mainland. It doesn’t matter what color they are. Puerto Ricans from Puerto Rico call Puerto Ricans from the mainland gringo too. LOL

Ruth,don t know you, but base on your statemens you look like an angry New Yorker than a local from beauiful Rincon.You are confusing the word Gringo with the word Cracker.Both words don t mean the same.The word Cracker is a bad word against caucasians the other is not.It is weird that last time i visited Rincon some people were upset about the world Gringo and in the Mainland i said the word numerous times and so many people dont even know what it means or never heard the word Gringo

This is funny. I think both Steven and Stefan are racist. Both of you seem to think all whites are gringos. Stephan are you whiter than every Puerto Rican?because you refer to gringos as white people and whites as gringos, here and in your FAQ’s? As if you can be white, but a Puerto Rican can not. and Steven if you are Puerto Rican than you surely have plenty of non gringo white friends or family because there are plenty of white people whom are Puerto Rican. I live in Cabo Rojo. I have family in Mayaguez, I speak English as my first language and Spanish as my second, my family is from Panama, Ireland, Lower Skagit, ect. I am a Gringo because I am from California, not because I AM WHITE.

There is always a resentful idiot who has to drip a sour note. Summer and her husband are just enjoying a very organized life. The “gringo” thing was so uncalled for… Yes, I think this blog is cute, cool and entertaining. I’m a local and Rincon is an incredible town, I believe anyone making good use of their living space has a right to flaunt their happiness.

Wow, I can’t believe this discussion is still alive! I agree with Reinaldo about Vistas de Puntas, but to tell the truth, I bet it never gets built. They are still trying to sell all those condo’s in town, plus the ones that are going in above Fish Eye. Crazy crazy..
About Surfrider, my husband was chapter chair in NJ for 4 years. It is a long and thankless job that happens DAILY. Try it sometime. you’ll see.
Now we limit it to our yearly longboard contest and let some of the younger ones handle the daily stuff. As for Rincon’s Surfrider, I don’t think it was in exsistance 15 years ago.
Thanks Summer and Stefan for all your blogs/classificados etc.. you guys are great.

Wow, Stefan and Summer, please do not think for a second that Steven’s thoughts are the standard in PR.

He is just part of a club of narrow minded people that migrated from, only God knows where, and decided to settle arround the world.

I don’t think your adventure is cute, I think is awesome and it actually inspires my (language barried husband) to continue with our plans of moving to PR very soon. Good luck.

Steven , i remember your controversial comments regarding white settlers coming to PR.I disagree with your comments because brittish and american colonialism happend long time ago.But this time is different loook at Vistas de Puntas ,developers GRINGOS from Long Island NY.Buying cheap selling 1/2 million to a million per residence no wander locals and some long time GRINGO residents are pissed.Developers havent done anything ilegal.But i have gut feeling that Rincon will become like Hawaii .Locals will be more territorials and less friendly in the future

As a amtter of fact log to my Facebook page and i will give it to you.Thanks for the Sufrider article .But from all the letters i wrote in the past Alicia and you only commplain about my orthography no one else.I really respect you in becoming bilingual thats mean you want to be part of us.You really want to become boricua. Thats like hoosier in Indiana or tar heel in North Carolina because a lot Gringos dont want to be like us they want Rincon and other areas be like South Africa. Next time try to write me a letter in spanich it will encourage a lot of people doing the same thing

In response to your question, I am not associated with Surfrider (yet!), but I do believe they help out in all beach areas that they can. Here is a report that includes the Vieques area.

From my search online, it looks like Surfrider has only been around as an organization since 1984 but has made a lot of progress in that time.

Alicia is right, you need to learn to type without all the CAPITAL LETTERS! In computer correspondence it is like yelling.
