What’s on the Menu?
What’s on the menu tonight? Well, spicy lettuce, green bell peppers and a cucumber may not sound that exciting to you, but these are all things that we are eating tonight that we grew in our garden! It’s so cool to finally be producing our own food since when we bought this property it was pretty barren (except for the salsa trees and pica pica).

We’ve learned lots of stuff from garden 1.0, garden 2.0, garden 2.5 and garden 3.0 and our current garden is doing AMAZING. While many plants say they do best in full sun, I don’t know of many plants that can survive and thrive in full PUERTO RICAN SUN. We moved the garden down by the mango tree where it gets a nice dose of sun and an equally nice dose of shade during the day. Currently, our garden is producing lettuce, cucumbers, bell peppers, cilantro, basil, zucchini, tomatoes and snap peas, and will soon be producing jalapanos, habenero peppers, purple bell peppers, thai chilis, lemon cucumbers and leeks.

yum. looks good (except for the pepper, I use to love them but they don’t love me)!
So far we just have pica pica and half dead lime trees, oh and hearty breadfruit. I guess my “garden” will have to wait until I can be down there more than a few weeks at a time.
ps.. is pica pica season over yet?

Your doing great grasshopper, keep up the good work. Love the idea of eating non chemical treated produce. Wishing you and the family well and hope to be joining you all in PR soon.

Hey guys, glad to see all the good stuff you can grow. Wish the local markets would carry more locally grown produce; its’ hard to find good veggies in PR.

Hey gus,
Did you ever get my message about my two topsy turvy tomato plants?
Igot a beefmaster and a roma and they’re both flourishing.
When they start getting red, I just put a ziplock sandwich bag over the tomato.
It prevents the birds from eating them and because it is it is hanging by wires I have no insect problems.
I have to give them away constantly! I have an abundance.

@Ivan:
Summer and I both get the emails…we’ve been pretty busy traveling, working and hanging out with Sydney!
I have a question about your tomatoes. Are you having any tomato worm issues this time of the year or are you still having no insect problems? We only notice the worms in our summer harvests.
Thanks for the tip on putting an almost ripe tomato in a plastic bag. Works like a charm!
