Feeling Homesick
Man, we really miss being home. We have some friends (Tony and Meghan) staying at our house watching Monkey, Cheech and the chickens but we’ve been gone for 5 weeks now and I am loosing it!
We are in San Diego again visiting Summers family, working and enjoying everything this extremely spread out city has to offer. Unlike Rincon, it takes 30 minutes to get anywhere here…without traffic.
The drive from San Diego to Palm Springs is direct and on main highways the entire time aside from one really cool mountain pass. Outside of San Diego county, my phone buzzed indicating to me that there was a wireless network available, and the network was called RINCON! It made me think about our little finca in Rincon and miss it even more. It’s funny, we totally take it for granted while we are there. Our life in Puerto Rico is ‘as good as it gets’ and I’m stoked to hear the clapping upon the plane landing, smelling the humidity and hearing the Coquís when we land.

It’s funny when we go on vacations and can’t wait to get out of the Island and then can’t wait to come back!

Stephan, I was 18 when I had to move abroad, then realized – at that young age – I had been taking my Island life for granted. Moved back home 8 years later and swore to never again make such a mistake. I have been traveling long and wide but am always happy to come back home. BTW: Got tickets for Amsterdam for November
!
Tot ziens!

Thanks for this website!! i don’t even know how I stumbled upon it, but sure glad I did….My husbad and I traveled to PR Spring of 2010 and fell in love with the island for so many reasons…so much so that we closed on a home last February in Vieques and have embarked on a shadow journey. We are planning on moving there permently no later then next Fall, sooner if we decide to just go for it. My children are grown…what a gift you are giving your daugther!! Thanks for sharing your journey and lives! Rincon is just gorgeous…we had such a tough time deciding on where to buy….timing and luck were on our sides in finding our home on Vieques….

…but then again, in the WA state you have great food and depressing weather and polite people…in CA you have great food and better weather but it is WAY too expensive and on and on. Jeff wants our next stop to be CA (wants to work for SpaceX) and he doesn’t believe me about the smog situation in LA. Great food there and not much else! Gotta love what you can and put the rest out of your mind.

Stefan, looks like you have become an adopted Boricua! LOL Katrina on the food and manners, so true! Dooon’t move to California!!!!!!!! We escaped it after 35 good years. You will find much of what we complain about in PR in CA. But here we’re on a tropical, laid back island. CA has changed a lot since you lived there. The only thing I miss is the fresh food. Think of California as a great place to visit. — Fran
